2021 KBS Symphony Orchestra Audition

 

 

This announcement is for foreign applicants

 

1. Positions Available

    o 2nd Violin : Principal(1)

    o Trombone : Principal(1), Assistant Principal(1), Tutti(1)

    o Timpani : Principal(1)

 

2. Qualification for application

    o Applicants should have at least a bachelor's degree or equivalent diploma in the instrument he or she wants to apply for.

    o Applicants should meet the standard of the regulation of the KBS Symphony Orchestra.

    o Applicants should be qualified upon broadcasting regulations.

    o Korean male applicants should have completed their military service or public service that corresponds to the national obligation.

       ※ Applicants who were exempted from military service can apply. 

       ※ The applicants who are in the military service must be discharged from military service before joining the orchestra.

 

3. Application Procedure

   (1) Application Submitting Period : Time criteria are based on Korean STANDARD TIME, GMT +9

        - Deadline : ~ 25th November, 2021 PM 18:00

         ※ Except the KBSSO's official Application Form, all kinds of general CV or Resume are not accepted without notice

4. Audition Schedule

 

   (1)1st Round | Live Audition(Solo and Orchestral Excerpts): Time criteria are based on Korean STANDARD TIME, GMT +9 

        ※ 1st Round is only for the 2nd Violin Principal applicants who submit the application form 

            - Regarding Audition Repertoire, Click the link and please find and check the attachment(PDF format file) 

            - No piano accompanist is necessary and all applicants play with the 442Hz pitch

            - All individual expenses for the audition shall be borne by the applicant. 

        o Date: 8th December 2021 ~ 12th December 2021

            - Detailed schedule of the 1st round will be announced individually and can be changed by the concert schedule of the orchestra with notice

        o Venue: KBS Symphony Orchestra Studio (13, Yeoigongwon- ro , Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, Korea)

 

   (2) 2nd Round | Live Audition(Solo and Orchestral Excerpts): Time criteria are based on Korean STANDARD TIME, GMT +9

        ※ Only a few selected 2nd Violin Principal candidates will be invited to 2nd round on the result of 1st round and

            all applicants of Trombone and Timpani shall participate in the live audition in Seoul

        o Date : 15th December 2021 ~ 20th December 2021

           - Detailed schedule of the 2nd round will be announced individually and can be changed by the concert schedule of the orchestra with notice 

        o Venue: KBS SymphonyOrchestra Studio (13, Yeoigongwon- ro , Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, Korea)

 

Additional Notice regarding Trombone and Timpani Audition   ○ Trombone Principal/Assistant Principal/Tutti      - Regarding  the solo piece-'Any movement from Bach Suite'- all applicants should play with the music published by         International Music Company's edition(transcribed by Keith Brown)    ○ Timpani Principal       - Regarding timpani principal audition, all applicants should play instruments prepared by KBS Symphony Orchestra.                 → Timpani : American Set-up

 

   (3) 3rd Round | Interview

       - The detailed schedule will be announced individually after the 2nd Round.

       - KBSSO will ask to prepare additional documents only for a person who passes the 2nd Round

         o The certificates which verify their college graduation and the highest level of schooling which they have completed

            (the certificates must be authenticated by the embassy's notarization)

         o Relevant certificates which verify their career.

         o The certificate of authentication which government publishes for identification.  

 

5. Employment

   - Final successful candidates will work as trainees(probation period) for 1 year, and there will be a final screening
     at the end of the probationary period.

   - Applicants who pass this screening will be treated upon the regulation of the KBS SymphonyOrchestra and compensation, 

     services and benefits will be applied to KBS Symphony Orchestra's regulation.

 

6. Other details

   - The Audition Committee of KBS Symphony Orchestra reserves the right to dismiss any candidate
     not meeting the highest stands at this audition.

   - Even for the chosen candidates, his/her acceptance will be canceled if he/she fails the physical examination
     for employment or if any ineligibility reason is found out.

   - Submitted documents will not be returned to applicants.

   - All notices will be delivered by E-mail so all applicants must make sure they provide correct 
     information in the application.

    - With the prolonged COVID-19 infection, KBSSO will announce guidelines related to COVID-19 to secure health safety and prevent the spread of 

      infectious diseases for KBSSO's recruitment process, so we ask for your cooperation

      ※ According to the government's , foreign entrants are required to self-quarantine or quarantine for 14 days in a government-designated

          facility - where will be charged KRW 150,000 per day-except for cases where vaccination has been completed abroad in advance and 

          the person does not possess a quarantine exemption certificate issued by the Korean embassy for humanitarian reasons, etc.

          Please refer to the audition schedule and thoroughly review the procedures and period required for entry or quarantine or quarantine exemption before participating in the audition in Seoul.

      ※ In order to ensure the safety of all applicants participating in the 1st and 2nd round audition, Corona PCR test results must be submitted until one day before the practical examination date. 

          After the application deadline, KBSSO will notify the 1st or 2nd round audition schedule individually and only the PCR Test conducted 3 days before each audition date will be accepted.

          Please conduct a nasopharyngeal swab PCR (gene amplification) test at screening clinics, etc., and you cannot submit test results performed with a self-diagnosis kit, etc.  

          The way to submit test results will be announced later.
